OCCUPATION HEALTH AND SAFETY
              IN CEMENT INDUSTRY

  1. Introduction

Cement can be called as a basic, critical building material used in construction all over the world. At
present, the cement required for the construction of the world is produced by using different brands
all over the world. A brief introduction to this cement production process is given below.

Extraction of raw materials: The main raw materials used in the manufacture of cement are limestone, clay, shale, iron ore and sand. These materials are extracted from quarries or mines and transported to the cement plant.

Crushing and Grinding: The ingredients are crushed and made into a fine powder.

Blending and Homogenization: The crushed and ground ingredients are mixed in the right proportion
to form a homogeneous mixture. This ensures consistent quality and properties of cement.

Preheating and Pre-calcining: The raw meal is preheated and pre-calcined in a preheater / pre calciner
system. This helps in the decomposition of raw materials and prepares them for the next stage of the
process.

Clinker Production: The preheated and pre-calcined raw meal is fed into a rotary kiln where it is
heated to high temperatures (around 1450°C). This process causes chemical reactions that result in
the formation of clinker, which is a nodular material.

Cooling: The clinker is cooled and quenched in a cooler to reduce its temperature and stabilize its
chemical composition.

Grinding: The cooled clinker is finely ground with gypsum and other additives (such as fly ash or slag)
in cement mills to produce cement powder.

Packaging and Distribution: The cement powder is stored in silos and then packaged in bags or bulk
containers for distribution to customers, such as construction companies and concrete producers.

Throughout the manufacturing process, world-renowned quality controls are followed to ensure that
cement is manufactured under specified standard conditions. The cement produced in this way is
distributed all over the world to meet the needs of customers.
